Autum Faire 2009

Autumn Greetings!

Today the 9th Annual Autumn Faire was celebrated. This also marks an important day in Prairie Moon's history.

It was the first time that it was held at Prairie Moon - we have indeed become a destination. Wet-on-wet painting, a 1st grade play, candle dipping, portrait drawings, soup cafe, a silent and live auction, a free Meadowlark music demonstration, and storytelling with puppets was held in the Sunflower classroom. Our puppet show originally planned had to be canceled due to illness in the puppeteers family.

We thank the many who came, bid on items, purchased items, played, and enjoyed the beautiful campus of Prairie Moon. As always - it was another magical day.

In the evening, as we were getting ready for the live auction event, we looked outside for an incredible sky with pink/purplish hues. It was a beautiful day!

St. John's Festival - A Midsummer's Eve

St. John's Festival: A Mid-Summer's Eve, June 24th
It started with a dream...
Ms. Monika had being attending a St. John's Festival celebration in NY where she was receiving her Waldorf teacher training. During each of the last three summer festivals, she dreamed of such a festival right here at Prairie Moon. With her being here for the festival this year, this was the year to plant that seed.
And so it was....
For those twenty or so who attended Prairie Moon's first St. John's Festival, we suspect you left with the word "magical" as one of the descriptors of the evening.
It began with a twist....
The plan was to eat first, then move out into the field for a bonfire as the sun was beginning to set. However, the incoming storm changed our plans.
First, our bonfire circle was met with high winds, as a thunderstorm began to move in. Mother nature gifted our festival with a beautiful lightning and cloud display. We all watched the sky show with awe.
Eat, like in the olden days...
The storm led to a power outage and we moved our food table to the front entrance, opened the doors, put blankets out and ate as if we were sitting on a porch, watching the heavy rains come out. Once the storm had ended, puddles became the focus of much interest for the children, along with toads who were thirsty. While they were joyously excited, the adults continued to sing songs in rounds and welcomed even the most shy of singers to participate. Nothing uplifts the soul like wonderful songs to sing. Then it was time to clean-up and go home to continue to experience the magic of this mid-summer's evening.
The seed was planted...
As Ms. Monika reflected upon the evening, she wondered how such little planning by so few could result in one of the most memorable festivals at Prairie Moon....hmmmm...."Note to self", she thought.

Welcome

Hello and welcome...
We thought we would begin a blog for Prairie Moon, as it is more informal than our newsletter and can include more descriptive commentary on events than our monthly newsletter.
Thanks for joining us and supporting this beautiful school that nurtures our children's whole being.
